Our Mission
"Finding Inspiration in Every Turn"
Every Life Matters Animal Rescue (ELMAR) is committed to giving vulnerable animals a second chance at life. With a primary focus on rescuing dogs from local shelters, we also extend our compassion and resources to other animals in need. Our mission is to rescue, rehab, re-home, and educate, advocating tirelessly to place each rescued animal in a loving forever home. We believe every animal deserves a life of dignity, safety, and love, and through our dedicated network of volunteers, foster families, and donors, we strive to make this mission a reality. Every life truly matters, and we’re here to ensure they all get the chance they deserve.
About ELMAR
Every Life Matters: The Heart and Challenges of Animal Rescue

In a world where too many animals face uncertain futures, rescues like Every Life Matters Animal Rescue (ELM) become the lifeline for those most in need. Founded in 2016 by Crystal Lyons in McKinney, Texas, ELM has since relocated to Celina, Texas, where it continues its mission of "Rescue, Rehome, Educate." As a fully volunteer-run 501(c)(3) organization, ELM Animal Rescue has saved over 400 animals—primarily dogs, but also pigs, goats, and more. However, as with many animal rescue organizations, ELM faces considerable challenges in fulfilling its mission. Volunteers, donations, and foster families are not just helpful but essential for the continued success of the rescue.

The Challenges of Running a Rescue

Operating an animal rescue is no small feat. It's an undertaking that requires passion, dedication, and an immense amount of resources. One of the most significant hurdles rescues face is the sheer volume of animals needing help. ELM Animal Rescue focuses primarily on dogs, but it’s not uncommon for other animals—such as goats or pigs—to need their assistance. While their mission is noble, the influx of animals that require urgent care can quickly overwhelm even the most dedicated teams.

In addition to the physical space needed for these rescues, financial strain is a constant challenge. Veterinary care, food, shelter, and transportation costs add up rapidly. ELM, like many other rescues, relies entirely on donations to cover these expenses. Without consistent financial support from donors, it's impossible to maintain the level of care required to give each animal the second chance it deserves. And with the organization growing, so too do the financial needs.
The Role of Volunteers

Rescue operations like ELM Animal Rescue simply couldn’t function without the help of volunteers. These selfless individuals donate their time and energy to care for animals, transport them to veterinary appointments, and assist with events and adoptions. Volunteers are the backbone of ELM's success, providing daily care and attention that helps the animals adjust and heal after being saved from dangerous or abusive situations.

Yet, finding committed volunteers can be a challenge. Many people underestimate the level of involvement required or might feel overwhelmed by the emotional toll of working with animals in need. However, for those who choose to volunteer, the experience is incredibly rewarding. Being part of an animal’s journey from rescue to rehoming is an emotional and fulfilling experience, and it can be life-changing for both the animal and the volunteer.

The Importance of Foster Families

If volunteers are the backbone, foster families are the heart of animal rescue. Fosters provide a temporary, loving home for animals who may need extra care before they are ready for adoption. For many animals, especially those who have suffered abuse or neglect, a foster home is a vital stepping stone to finding their forever family. It offers a safe, calm environment where they can learn to trust again, recover from medical conditions, or simply gain confidence.

Finding foster families, however, is another challenge for rescues like ELM. Many potential fosters worry that they'll become too attached to the animals or that their homes aren't suitable. However, fostering is one of the most effective ways to help an animal in need, offering them a better chance at being successfully adopted. In many cases, foster families provide essential feedback on the dog’s behavior and needs, which helps the rescue match the animal with the right permanent home.

The Lifeline of Donations

For ELM, donations are the lifeblood that keeps the organization running. While financial contributions are critical to covering medical expenses, food, and other essential supplies, in-kind donations such as pet food, bedding, and crates are equally important. Regular donors, sponsors, and even one-time contributions allow ELM to plan, operate, and grow their rescue efforts.

With rising costs and increasing numbers of animals needing help, donations are more critical than ever. It’s not just the big donations that make a difference—small, consistent contributions can have a profound impact. Monthly donors provide the stability ELM needs to continue saving lives and offering the animals the care they deserve.
